Job Description: Membership Growth & Development Officer

Department: Market Development | Reports To: Director of Marketing, Impact, & Growth
Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt | Location: Hybrid

Pay range $27-$30/hour.

Primary Purpose of Position

Lead field of membership expansion, mission-aligned partnership development, public relations, media management, and member engagement strategies to drive sustainable growth of Clean Energy Credit Union, with a hybrid mission- and business-development focus that leads to both deposit and loan growth. This officer-level role serves as the primary architect of membership acquisition strategy through strategic partnerships, educational programming, and community outreach. You will build bridges between our mission and the communities who share our values, expanding access to clean energy financing for underserved populations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Field of Membership Expansion & Strategic Partnerships

  • Lead the strategy and execution for expanding Clean Energy CU’s field of membership
  • Identify, cultivate, and onboard mission-aligned partner organizations across sustainability, cooperative finance, and social impact sectors
  • Develop custom programs, promotions, and communications that drive membership growth within partner networks
  • Build and manage a robust partnership pipeline, ensuring programs are thoroughly vetted and aligned with organizational goals, and collaborate with internal teams to develop and launch successful long‑term partnerships.
  • Track partnership performance metrics and optimize growth strategies accordingly
  • Research, track, and vet clean‑energy financing programs offered by state agencies, utilities, municipalities, and counties to identify opportunities that expand loan access and reduce borrower barriers.
  • Develop recommendations for program participation and integration into loan products or outreach campaigns.

Public Relations and Media Management

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for local, trade, and national media inquiries; maintaining a database of journalists covering climate, finance, and social justice.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media alerts, and pitch letters highlighting new partnerships, impact milestones, and product launches.
  • Proactively secure interview opportunities, guest articles, and podcast appearances for the leadership team to establish Clean Energy CU as a thought leader in green finance.

Mission-Aligned Outreach & Network Building

  • Represent the Credit Union at conferences, community events, and sector convenings
  • Build relationships with organizations advancing clean energy, climate justice, and equitable finance
  • Develop an annual outreach and events strategy to maximize visibility and impact
  • Engage influencers and community leaders to expand access to clean energy financing, especially for underserved or underbanked populations

Member Acquisition, Engagement, & Feedback

  • Design systems for gathering member insights, including interviews, focus groups, and surveys
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on quarterly NPS tracking and installer/member experience surveys
  • Analyze membership trends and barriers to improve acquisition efforts and member experience
  • Develop engagement initiatives that strengthen relationships and foster advocacy

Education, Training & Community Programming

  • Serve as both a presenter and a presentation resource, delivering key presentations while also assisting management team members in preparing their content to ensure clarity, cohesion, and consistency with Clean Energy CU’s mission and messaging.
  • Create educational materials explaining clean energy financing and credit union membership
  • Design webinars, workshops, and other programming to support member access and understanding
  • Work closely with marketing, the board, and management to coordinate the Annual Meeting, ensuring consistent messaging and strong engagement from members and employees while delivering an inspiring and inclusive event.

Grant Management, Reporting & Impact Communication

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of all required annual reports to relevant regulators, impact funders, and program partners.
  • Identify and pursue new grant and funding opportunities that support mission expansion
  • Create compelling external presentations demonstrating Clean Energy CU’s impact and partnerships

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years experience in partnership development, member acquisition, community engagement, or related role
  • Experience in financial services, credit unions, or mission-driven organizations strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of successful partnership development and membership growth
  • Experience with public speaking, presentations, and representing organizations at events
  • Knowledge of clean energy, sustainability, or environmental justice sectors a plus

Working Environment / Physical Activities

Professional office environment eligible for hybrid work. Sedentary computer work with frequent external meetings and presentations. Regular travel required for conferences, partner meetings, speaking engagements, and community events. Irregular hours to accommodate events and partner schedules. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. Ability to read, write, and understand English fluently.
