NCUA Changes Explained: A Message from Terri Mickelsen on the Continued Safety of Your Funds

We understand that recent news about changes in leadership at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) may have raised questions about the safety and stability of your funds. We want to take a moment to reassure you and provide clarity during this time of transition.

Your Funds Are Secure

Your deposits are insured for up to $250,000 per individual depositor by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), and coverage may be higher depending on account ownership structure. This protection is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, just like FDIC insurance for banks. That hasn’t changed—and it won’t.

Leadership Changes Do Not Impact Your Protection

While the NCUA has seen a shift in leadership, its core mission remains the same: to ensure the safety and soundness of credit unions and protect members like you. Regulatory oversight continues uninterrupted, and the agency remains focused on strengthening the credit union system.

We Are Proactively Adapting to New Standards

The NCUA is placing increased emphasis on areas such as credit risk, cybersecurity, and fair lending. We welcome this direction and are already taking steps to meet and exceed these expectations. Our commitment to transparency, responsible lending, and data security is stronger than ever.

You Are at the Heart of Everything We Do

As a sustainable member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, we exist to serve you and not shareholders. Every decision we make is guided by what’s best for our members and the communities we serve, while staying true to our mission of promoting clean energy and environmental responsibility.

If you have any questions or would like to speak with one of our team members directly, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support you and ensure you feel confident in your financial future.

Thank you for your membership and continued trust.

Sincerely,

Terri Mickelsen
